Pro is a separate plugin, sold and delivered from this site: you install it alongside the free one rather than switching something on inside it. Prices exclude tax. Any VAT or sales tax that applies is calculated at checkout from your billing address; VAT-registered businesses can enter a VAT number there and the tax is removed.
What free is
A complete, compliance-first AI assistant for a WordPress site: any provider, any model, on your own keys; grounded answers with citations from your own posts, pages, documents and JSON; moderation on every message; the full privacy layer — storage modes, retention, consent, DSAR export and erase; and honest uncertainty when the answer isn’t in your content. Nothing in it is a demo of something else.

Moderation itself runs on every plan and has no off-switch — only its tuning is Pro. The free depth of five passages is the untuned-safe default, not a cap: it is the number that behaves well without anyone having to tune it, and every passage still has to clear the relevance bar to be used at all.
What your money is actually buying
Leverage, not safety. Pro doesn’t make the assistant more trustworthy — it makes the conversations more useful to the business behind it: more of your commercial content answerable, and a way to see and act on what visitors are asking for. Safety was never the upsell.
The other bill — and why it can be nothing
AnswerRails is bring-your-own-key. Your site talks to your own account at OpenAI, Anthropic or Mistral, and every answer is billed by that provider at their rates, to you. We add nothing on top and take no cut. New installs default to Mistral, whose API key is free to create with no card — so a working assistant can cost nothing to run.
